I’m so excited that I got to play with the new Marc Jacobs Matte Gel Highliner Eye Crayons. If you watched Lady Gaga at the Superbowl Half-Time show (holy crap was she amazing) you probably saw her makeup which was done using these!
Today I created a brown smokey eye that is great for daytime as well as nighttime looks. It took me less than 5 minutes to do which is about my limit on makeup adventures before I give up. I’ve got dark eyes so I’ve always shied away from the typical black and gray smokey eyes because they wash out my skin. The brown is perfect for creating a subtle smokey eye that keeps my eyes bright and skin looking warm. I’ve got a quick step by step of what I did and I’ll do a full review of the products I used as well.
Creating the smokey eye was so easy! I used the new Highliners in two shades, (Earth)Quake which is a rich dark brown and Irony which is a deep gray. First I applied (Earth)Quake all over my lid and crease and blended it with my finger. Note: I did NOT use an eyeshadow primer because the first time I tried that I couldn’t blend these at all.
I then blended the shade Irony along my lash line and outer corner of my eye. I applied it to my upper and lower waterline as well and I’ve got to say this is the best product for waterlines. It’s so smooth and once it sets it doesn’t budge.
I added some winged eyeliner and mascara and that was it!
Overall I had a great time playing with these and they definitely made it easy to
Pros: They are easy to use and come in a matte and shimmery formula and a ton of colors. They are so smooth and never tug on your delicate eye skin which is a huge plus. They don’t budge once they are set which is great for a product that is used on the eyelids which produce more oil than you think.
Cons: They are very soft, the first few times I used them I got them EVERYWHERE when I tried to sharpen them. The sharpener didn’t work and just broke off the tip and I got brown eyeliner all over my hands and face which was a mess. Found out the hard was these do NOT wash right off with soap and water.
