Daily Skincare Routine

I thought I’d share my skincare routine as well as my favorite products with you today. I’ve received many questions and comments about the products I use so I figured it was time to put together a post about them instead of trying to answer everyone directly with a long list. I have always had problems with my skin and growing up it was always a big concern for me. It’s taken a lot of trial and error to find things that work for me so I try to stick with them.

Below is my skincare routine as well as links to the products I use. I should preface by saying that I have very sensitive skin that breaks out or gets rashes from products that are irritating. My skin in combination so finding products that work all over is difficult especially in the cold dry months when half my face is raw and peeling and the other half is breaking out from too much oil production. I have found many great products that have worked wonders for me and make a huge difference in the quality and appearance of my skin. Remember, I am not an expert or a dermatologist, these are just products that work for me and my skin.

Cleanse. The morning is when the skin is refreshed and renewed from the night before. All the good oils have saturated your skin and washing your face can do more harm than good. I use a cream cleanser because it doesn’t strip my skin of oils but still cleanses my skin. My favorite is Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, it’s got great ingredients and comes with a muslim cloth for gentle cleansing. For some reason it wouldn’t link to it so I included the Dr. Hauschka Cleansing Milk which is another one of my go to cleansers. It’s got great ingredients and is super gentle on the skin while still being effective. It is slightly more pricey for the size which is why I buy it less often.
For makeup remover I use good old 100% organic coconut oil. It’s super gentle, has only one ingredient, and takes off waterproof mascara without any problem. I buy giant tubs of it from Costco because we go through it so fast (ugh I know, I have a problem), its such an amazing and universal product that I can’t help myself. If you can’t get your hands on coconut oil something like jojoba oil is a great alternative. I take a little bit and rub it between my fingers until it melts and then gently apply it to my eyes to remove stubborn makeup and mascara. I remove it with a soft cotton round and follow with my cleanser and Clarisonic.
At night I use my Clarisonic with my cream cleanser to make sure my skin is free of all the days grime and dead skin. It makes my skin so buttery soft and smooth because it removes all of the dead skin and buildup from the day. The Clarisonic is definitely one thing I have to use sparingly because it’s very drying if I use it too often or too aggressively. Be sure to clean and replace the brush heads often for your own health.
Balance. This is when I apply my toner. I change out toners pretty often based on my skin needs but one I keep going back to is Evan Healy in the Lemon Thyme scent. These are really pure with only a couple of ingredients which is why I like them. My only complaint is that the bottle is glass so traveling with it is impossible. Toners that are witch hazel based are ph neutral and balance your skins oils. They help to add moisture as well as refresh your makeup and skin throughout the day. I spritz some on my face when I need a pick me up, its like iced coffee for my skin.
Nourish. Applying my serum and moisturizer is one of the most important steps for keeping my skin clear and bright. Just a few drops of serum before my moisturizer creates a healthy, natural glow. Right now I’m using Aubrey Organic Age-Defying Therapy Serum and loving it. I was not a serum believer until I tried it, I thought that adding more oil to my face would make it break out but it has really changed my skin. The serum soaks in right away and actually tricks my skin into producing less because its already been properly moisturized. Serums are also jam-packed with great, natural ingredients that are beneficial to the overall health and elasticity of my skin. It leaves my skin soft and balanced with a healthy glow.
As for moisturizer I use Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream, I have been using it for years and love it. It can be rather pricey but I see such a difference in my skin when I use it opposed to other moisturizers. At night I use Alba Botanica Even Advanced Night Cream. It is super emollient and leaves my skin so fresh and glowing in the morning, it really helps to make my skin healthy and moisturized. It also evens my skin tone and fades dark spots.
Protect. I apply SPF rain or shine to protect my skin from UV and free radicals. This is an easy step to miss but it’s really important to choose a high quality sunscreen with good ingredients that works for your skin type. Right now I’m using SuperGoop! City Sunscreen SPF 30+ which has worked wonders for my sensitive skin. It’s not oily or thick at all, it feels just like a thin moisturizers when you apply it and soaks in so fast. It has not made me breakout and I have very sensitive skin.

Hey girl, I wear Tata Harper plumping lip and cheek stain in Very Charming. I’d always been a powder blush lover but then I switched to this and I’m obsessed, it just looks and feels more natural on my skin and my skin has been clearer too.
