New Day Gentle Exfoliating Grains

I’ve been using New Day Cleansing Grains from Farmacy Beauty for about two weeks now and it is BANANAS. As always, it is phthalate, paraben, and sulphate free and is not tested on animals. It’s completely revolutionized the way I think about exfoliators on so many levels. I’m always on the hunt for great skin products and the one in particular that always seems to elude me is an exfoliator. Many of the ones I try are either too rough and give me a rash or are too gentle and don’t fully cleanse. You know I’ve got sensitive skin that will randomly get irritated or breakout from products so finding things that work for me long term is not easy. It’s a struggle to find a product that has great ingredients as well as amazing results and find that balance between being truly deep cleansing and gentle on my skin. It’s gentle enough to use daily but powerful enough to remove all the dirt and grime of the day in just one use.

First of all, they are called cleansing grains for a reason. It’s not a gel or a paste that you squeeze from a tube which blows my mind completely. The bottle contains a powdered form of the cleanser and a little bit goes a long way and its super easy to use:

1. Pour a small amount of the grains (about the size of a quarter) into your palm

2. Add a few drops of water (if I wet my  finger tips it usually enough) and blend. A smooth, foaming paste will form as you mix it.

3. Gently massage into skin with a circular sweeping motions.

4. Rinse with warm water and pat dry.

Instead of just smearing it on top of my skin I could really feel it getting down into my pores and cleansing and exfoliating as the formula was activated. The whole process of adding water and having to massaging it into my skin to activate the benefits greatly increased the positive outcome I saw. I was both more aware of how the product was working for me and more in tune with my skins needs.

This is also a game changer for you traveling ladies, no more travel sized cleansers or settling for those cheapy ones that come in sample sizes. Because it’s a completely dry formula you can take in on the plane with you and not worry about it a) leaking all over your clothes, and b) getting tossed by TSA because it’s over their liquid limit.

Secondly, the formula itself is packed with natural plant-based ingredients to cleanse and clarify your skin naturally. You know me, I am all about products that are free of phthalates, parabens, and sulphates that can harm and damage your skin more than you know. This product is designed to support your skins natural defense and cycle of cell renewal rather than replace it making it gentler and more effective at encouraging positive changes.

I love that the ingredients are plant-based and are from recognizable sources and not bits of wax or plastic like many cleansers (note: anything that contains the word “microbeads” means you’re rubbing plastic into your face, yuck!). The exfoliators in these cleansing grains come from varied plant sources. Powdered rice bran and cranberry seeds are small enough to gently slough away dry/dead skin, dirt, and oils while promoting skin clarity. I did feel like these could have been slightly more abundant because I could feel them exfoliating when I first applied it to my face but after a few seconds they started to disperse and I was left with more cleansing than exfoliating which, at this time of year, I definitely need as much as I can get.

The base of the cleansing action is powered by EchinaceaGreenEnvy™ which is a variant of Echinacea Purpurea “Green Envy,” a strain of Echinacea with more healing properties than any other variety. As you may know Echinacea has long been used internally and externally to treat a wide variety of ailments and boost immunity.

This particular variant contains the highest known concentration of the phytochemical Cichoric Acid. This antioxidant helps regulates the skin pigmentation process.  I did find that my skin’s overall appearance was more even after just two weeks of use and I’m sure with continued use I will see more results. Cichoric acid also inhibits the enzymes that break down collagen which allows the skin to be more firm and supple. This was a harder claim to see but I did notice that my skin was more firm and my pores were smaller and less noticeable on my nose and chin which I was very pleased with. I am someone who struggles with blackheads more than anything and unsightly large pores that I am pretty self conscious about.

Lastly, I am all about results. I like products that live up to their claims and ones that don’t usually don’t last in my collection for very long. I have been very impressed by the results from this product; surprised and impressed. In the last two weeks and I’ve seen a major change in both the quality and the radiance of my skin. My skin feels so much softer, smoother, more even in both texture and oil production. Especially this time of year my skin feels dry and can get rough from flakiness but so far that hasn’t happened which has been amazing. I really felt like this cleansed and exfoliated my skin well without any irritation or redness. It’s important that you work with your skin and test all products before using them so you know how your skin will react, especially if you have sensitive skin like I do. I was very impressed with the formula as a whole and the results I saw were from continued use. The fact that its a powder is still blowing my mind!

You can find it at your local Sephora (online and in stores) or at The price reflects the potent ingredients in it but I’m very adamant that its worth the splurge, it’s seeing a lot of use in my house and I’ll continue to use it.
